MODELS
MASSING AND FORM

A greyboard model was made during the BIG Draw exercise to test out the massing and form of the structure, with arrows indicating the direction of "growth" of each housing units over time. The main shape of the design could be described as rigid and rectilinear "boxes" stacked together with a clean split in the middle as circulation path. These simple forms would benefit the self-built approach used for the design.
Private/ Enclosed
Public/Circulation
Structure

As the concept behind the design was to create an optimal communal living experience, the basic structure was repeated several times to form one long super structure. Primary and secondary structures were tested out to ensure it would support loads imposed on it.

Flat roof
Shed roof
Further consultation with the M+E and Structural engineer resulted in a change from a flat roof to a shed roof structure, thus increases spaces for expansions, and provides a better platform for PV cells installations.
test models (public space/ vertical garden)

By testing out the vertical communal garden idea from Iteration 1 on a !:50 scale, it is discovered that the guerilla approach for this design might not be feasible as the structure continues to grow.
