A MOMENT IN THE CUBE HOUSE

On a wider context, there seems to be interaction among the residents of the Cube House Hostels as they are sharing a communal space. Great disparity and disconnect is observed as each person seems to have form their own perception of personal space in the shared area. The complexity of this moment was intriguing as it helps me to understand how communal spaces work in a co-housing setting.

Young and carefree, the couple on the left appears to be having a jolly good time, engaging in conversation while accompanied by local pastries and wine. While they have occupied a picnic table which is clearly set for four, they still respect other residents’ spaces by not making a scene.

Preferring the comfort of his own space, the man on the top floor chose to stay indoors. He peers down occasionally, as it is only human nature to be constantly aware of one’s surroundings.

The mother and her children occupies the other far end of the room. As the mother are aware of the couple’s activities, she monitors her children and prevents them from straying to near to the strangers. The toddler had form his own imaginary world with his toys, while his older brother ponders near the window while observing the streets below.
