UNPACKED.
UNPACKED. is a co-housing project that aims to create a safe and affordable environment for its residents by adopting self build strategies. The target audience for this housing project are the young families of Stretford. UNPACKED. was initiated upon hearing the voice of the community during our 1:1 Event " Dear Stretford, What are your concerns?" , and hopes to overcome the residents' fear of expensive housing. The project also strives to create new employment opportunities for its residents, thus reducing unemployment issues in town.
Looking at the UK Census Data 2011, the typologies of housing buildings in Stretford consists of a majority of terraced and semi-detached houses, creating a flatter context in contrast to neighboring towns. It is also observed that the percentage of shared and co-housing is extremely low.

During the 1:1 Event at Stretford Mall, we were approached by a large demographic of people who voiced their concerns regarding shortage of affordable housing in Stretford. However, the herstory of a single mother and her young son captivated my interest, as she relived her difficult encounters during her council housing days. They felt unsafe in their own home as they were assigned to share a building with addicts and sex workers who exhibited anti-social behaviour in the living environment.

The lack of employment opportunities also created complications for young families, as most of them would prefer to work from home or around Stretford in order to save on commuting and spend more time with their family.
